10th Annual Great Galena Balloon Race Marks Monumental Year at Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa

Galena, Illinois (PRWEB) May 12, 2011

Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa will host the Tenth Annual Great Galena Balloon Race on June 17-19, 2011 ? an event that is marking a decade of successful fundraising this year. This event is a unique, eye catching experience that also benefits the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and Camp Hertko Hollow, a camp for children with diabetes located in Boone, Iowa.

The event takes place in Galena, Illinois, at Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa?s North Course practice range and not only focuses on the fundraising goal, but also provides a wide variety of family-friendly events throughout the entire weekend that evolves around The Great Galena Balloon Race.

?The event originated in 2002 when my son, Cooper, was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes,? said Andy Williams, owner of Galena On The Fly. ?As I became more educated on the subject I realized that there was a real need for helping this organization out even further. The result was the fundraising partnership with Eagle Ridge to host the event every year since.?????

This spectacular three-day event will feature over 20 hot air balloons, two big races, two balloon night glows, tethered balloon rides, an antique collector car show, food and beverage, and activities for the entire family, along with a special Friday night Ale Fest! Live music will be provided by The Wundos from Platteville, Wisconsin, on Friday night and Taste Like Chicken from Dubuque, Iowa, on Saturday night. The event gets underway both days at 5 p.m., with complimentary remote parking shuttle busses available to pick up and drop off guests to the launch site.

On Friday night, June 17, Galena On The Fly officially kicks off the event with a Balloon launch at 6.30 p.m., coinciding with another traditional event – Ale Fest, sponsored by Family Beer & Liquor of East Dubuque, Illinois, from 6:30-9 p.m., featuring over 100 craft beers and ales to be taste tested.

?The Ale Fest is an opportunity to taste the latest releases in the craft beers and ales,? said Tim Althaus, President of Family Beer and Liquor. ?For the true beer lover, this gives you an excellent opportunity to taste from 100 beers, many new to the market, and even enjoy some of your old favorites as well. It?s not only a way to get acquainted with some new brews, but also with some new friends!?

Tickets for Ale Fest are available for purchase for $ 20 at Family Beer & Liquor in East Dubuque, Illinois, and comes with your own tasting glass for the event. You can also purchase tickets online by visiting http://www.greatgalenaballoonrace.com or at the gate on June 17. All proceeds from the event also go to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Friday and Saturday evening will bring a special celebration in the form of a nightly Camp Hertko Helium Balloon Launch. To support the camp, guests can purchase a white helium balloon for $ 1 or a special silver balloon for $ 5 and launch them as a group at 7:45 p.m. People who opt for the $ 5 balloon are also entered into a drawing for a free hot air balloon ride the next morning, joining the actual hot air balloon race the next day! Each balloon has a tracking code attached, which you can follow online. Participants will be able to find out where and when their balloon landed by visiting http://www.greatgalenaballoonrace.com.

Also on both evenings, tethered balloon rides will be available for the ?hot air balloon novice.? For $ 5 participants can climb into a hot air balloon basket and go up 40-50 feet in the air. Once their ?test drive? is completed, balloon rides can be purchased from Galena On The Fly all weekend at the event or by calling 800-690-1287.

After the sun sets on both Friday and Saturday night, the participating hot air balloons will light up the night sky with a balloon glow around 8:30p.m., creating a glow that can be seen for miles. Volunteers are welcome to join the pilots at the balloon launch site to provide support during the set up of the night glow.

In addition, volunteers are needed to help with the overall events. Activities that require volunteers range from food and beverage attendants, ID checkers, bounce house supervisors, donation collectors, night glow support, and much more. If you are interested in volunteering for this event, please e-mail info(at)greatgalenaballoonrace(dot)com. All volunteers receive free balloon event t-shirts.

?Volunteers are an extremely important part of making this event a success, without them, this fundraiser would not be possible,? says Eric Dregne, Great Galena Balloon Race committee member.

On Saturday morning at 6 a.m. the hot air balloon race begins. Over 20 pilots launch their hot air balloons in a race to find a mark that is hidden somewhere throughout the 6,800 acres of Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa. When the pilots find the mark, they drop a weight, aiming it as close to the target as they can. Although the event?s primary function is raising funds for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, the grand prize comes with the winning balloonist and their team claiming the race?s bragging rights for the entire year.

Guests can make the day extra special by purchasing a balloon ride as the sun rises over the Midwest by contacting Galena On The Fly, Inc. at 800-690-1287. Guests are also encouraged to come out and watch the balloons set up from start to lift off and meet all the pilots involved.

?All the pilots donate their time in support of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation,? Williams added.

Early Sunday morning, June 19, spectators will have one last chance to view the Crack of Dawn Balloon Race, as the balloons take flight one last time beginning at 6a.m. and closing out the event.

?We have a lot of people who come out every year to support this event and every year new people discover The Great Galena Balloon Race. If you?ve never attended a hot air balloon extravaganza, this is one of the more unique family activities you?ll ever run across,? Williams concluded. ?Everyone involved with this event has been amazing, from the supporters to sponsors to volunteers. We couldn?t do it without all their hard work!?

Other key sponsors of the event includes the Telegraph Herald, Net-Smart and FS Stephenson Supply Company.

Delaire Country Club Undergoing Transformation

Delray Beach, FL (PRWEB) May 19, 2011

With a $ 21 million improvement project well underway, Delaire Country Club, in Delray Beach, Fla., is experiencing a renaissance that is reinforcing its status as the most desirable country club in Palm Beach County.

A fresh new architectural style and amenities?designed to appeal to a new generation of country club buyer?are giving Delaire a reputation as the place to be in the Boca/Delray area.

?We compared Delaire to virtually a half-dozen clubs or gated communities in the Boca Raton area,? says Stan Davis, an industrial auctioneer from Pittsburgh, Pa., who recently purchased a three-bedroom home at Delaire with his wife Marian. ?They?re building here toward the future. The Clubhouse they already had was fine, but the new Clubhouse is going to be phenomenal. We?re very excited about it. Everybody here is very excited about it.?

Davis, who purchased his home for vacations and perhaps as a permanent residence in the future, looked at houses in Boca West, Broken Sound, Addison Reserve and Boca Pointe. Yet he decided to invest in Delaire.

?We?ve done a pretty good analysis of the clubs in the area,? says Davis, who is also an attorney. ?Delaire?s golf course is terrific, with no tee times. It?s a friendly community. The Fitness Center is fantastic. And the new Clubhouse is going to be absolutely dynamite. No doubt in my mind.?

The community has already opened its new Fitness and Tennis Center, which boasts a 16,000-square-foot Fitness Center with the latest in equipment and technology; a new Tennis Center with eight Har-Tru courts, an observation deck, a stadium court and Pro Shop; a spectacular resort-style pool; and a children?s playground.

The Fitness Center, five times as large as the facility is replaces, offers aerobics and fitness classes, such as the wildly popular Zumba, which combines aerobics with dance and Latin rhythms. Certified Fitness Trainers are available as well to those who prefer to customize their workouts.

A new 43,000-square-foot Clubhouse is under construction and slated to open this fall. It will become a focal point and gathering place for Delaire?s members and guests and will feature a bold new Mid-Atlantic Traditional style, a central rotunda, lavish main dining room, cocktail lounge, members grill, golf pro shop, card rooms and an outdoor dining area overlooking the lush golf course.

The new clubhouse will have extensive stonework, a slate-style roof, copper accents and ?green? design elements throughout?a stark contrast from the usual Spanish style, stucco buildings so commonly found in South Florida.

?Clubhouses are really an extension of everyone?s home,? says Jess M. Sowards, a partner with Delray Beach-based Currie Sowards Aguila Architects, which designed the new facilities. ?We designed the Clubhouse to have a warm and comfortable feeling, but with a distinct identity so that new and prospective members say, ?Wow, this is different than any other clubs. This is the place I want to be.??

Savvy homebuyers are already capitalizing on the real estate market by snapping up deals on single-family homes at Delaire. The community?s tree-lined streets are teeming with construction activity as new homeowners renovate?or build new custom homes.

?Word has gotten out about what we?re doing,? says Trent Squire, the Club?s general manager. ?That?s why prospective homebuyers should be checking out available homes at Delaire right now. Real estate sales in Palm Beach County are already on the upswing?the time to buy is now.?

About Delaire Country Club

Delaire Country Club is a private community of 326 single-family homes located on Military Trail along the Boca Raton-Delray Beach line. Delaire offers a first-class, casually elegant country club experience, featuring a 27-hole Joe Lee championship golf course with walk-on golf (no tee times), a full-service tennis facility with eight Har-Tru courts and world-class dining. The community recently opened a new state-of-the-art Fitness and Tennis Center, with the latest in equipment and technology as well as Certified Fitness Trainers. Delaire is also in the process of building a new main Clubhouse with the utmost in amenities, from a lavish dining room to a lounge, card rooms and meeting facilities. To learn more about the unique lifestyle offered at Delaire Country Club, contact Liz Shaw, executive coordinator, at 561-499-9090 or visit http://www.Delaire.org.

Back to School Juniors to Face Tough Lesson or Fail — Competition in High School Sports Means Scholarships Challenging

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) September 4, 2008

For thousands of high school athletes around the country, junior year just got a lot more stressful and a lot more work. According to new information from national scholarship consulting firm Scholarships for Athletes, competition for scholarship places is now so competitive that if athletes don’t start the search process in their junior year they could be outplayed and out of luck when it comes to playing their sport at the college of their choice.

“We’re seeing an unbelievable level of athletic skill coming out of high schools today,” says Ross Greenstein, president, Scholarship for Athletes. “The level of competition is really high. But while kids are more committed to their sport, train harder and play better than ever, they unfortunately don’t have the same kind of commitment and resources when it comes to the school selection process.”

According to 2007 SFA data, there are two main reasons why returning juniors need to get organized and start planning school selection now. Firstly, a marked rise in international candidates seeking to further their sports careers in the United States is driving increased competition. International students make up around 25 percent of the college athletes and that number is rising every year. Secondly, too many high school athletes are applying for too few places at the big name, well-known colleges. Both factors increase the competitive level for candidates and athletes are starting earlier than ever to seek the attention and recognition of the college coaches making the decisions.

“It’s just like consumer retail,” says Greenstein. “People trust established brands, follow trends and will do anything to get the latest must have item. It’s the same with schools. We’re seeing a lot of applicants from overseas, which is terrific for the level of US college sports but does increase competition. Kids also need to broaden their search away from just the top division 1 schools and programs they have seen on TV. There are more than 1,200 NCAA schools total and 500 junior colleges and NAIA schools. There is a lot of scholarship money out there.”

The real issue is lack of education, according to Greenstein. SFA data shows that as high as 90 percent of high school athletes still rely heavily on their high school coach or club/academy coach for connections with college programs. Due to the lack of education being provided to the student athletes and their parents out of more than 1,700 colleges in the United States many scholarship applicants seek placements in only the schools with big name reputations. Athletes need to understand the differences in schools and their athletic programs, determine what their market value is, and make every effort to distinguish themselves as early as possible.

“Juniors need to start differentiating themselves now,” says Greenstein. “By next year the majority of those scholarships will be gone.”

SCHOLARSHIP TIPS FOR ATHLETES AND FAMILIES

o????Start early. By senior year you or your athlete should be known by college coaches

o????Determine what is important to your or your athlete: athletically, academically and socially

o????Shortlist schools based on three criteria: athletic, academic and social requirements

o????Create a well written letter of interest and send it college coaches in your or your athlete’s junior year

o????Compile a DVD of tournament play,

o????You or your athlete should ask three questions: what are the differences in the schools on the short list, what is my or my athlete’s market value, what am I or my athlete doing to distinguish myself or my athlete?

o????Seek external counseling help with scholarships if needed
